India, June 8, 2026 - AI is quietly dismantling the way software has always been built. In a Business Standard technology feature, Shivraj Sabale, Chief Operating Officer at Xoriant, explains how AI and autonomous agents are collapsing the traditional software development lifecycle by merging roles that have always operated in sequence.
He traces the evolution from Waterfall to Agile, noting that while the methodology changed, the underlying logic of handoffs never did. Product owners created backlogs, developers picked them up, testers followed, and operations maintained the end state. That structure, he argues, is now giving way as AI enables small, cross-functional teams to own the entire build, test, and delivery cycle concurrently.
He also makes clear that this is beyond structural shift, more a mindset one. The teams that adapt fastest will not be the largest, they will be the most integrated.
