Internet of Things

IoT is the next evolution of the internet taking a giant leap with its ability to extract, analyze and share data. RFIDs, microcontrollers and other sensor technologies back-track to the roots of IoT. These devices added up to only 50 million connected devices before the introduction of smartphones. Emergence of the ubiquitous devices – Smartphones, has exponentially increased the total number of connected devices and actually brought the IoT technology to reality. Today the sensor technologies are communicating via internet with other devices including smartphones, thus calling themselves as smart sensors, smart location devices, smart actuators etc.  IoT is nothing but a network of these physical objects having embedded tools to interact, sense and communicate with their external environment or their internal states.

Internet of things

Gartner estimates by 2020 IoT will have around 26 billion units connected excluding the PCs, tablets and smartphones connected to the edge of the internet; today contributing to around 40% machine-generated data of the total data generated. IoT is an exciting development following the internet revolution; in which personal devices, physical objects communicate with each other to take autonomous actions based on intelligent decisions without human interactions. It encompasses information services, communication services, hardware and embedded software services associated with things. Market factors like lowering production costs for smart devices, general proliferation of devices like sensors, processors and its dropping costs have contributed to the low cost of adding IoT capabilities. And technical factors like more efficient wireless and wired communications, less data connection charges by the connectivity providers, expanded cellular networks leading to increased bandwidth and signaling are fueling the emergence of IoT technology to the point that connectivity will become a standard feature.

Industries ranging from manufacturing to healthcare to lifestyle sense an urgent need to radically change their strategies to create, operate and service their products and capture this eminent wave of value-creation opportunity. The IoT ecosystem has a set of myriad technologies underlying it and organizations need a trusted partner who have strength of industry knowledge, expertise and proficiency to deal with connecting a varied array of platforms and technologies on which the devices run. They need a technically sound partner who will help them overcome certain challenges like data and information management issues, privacy and security concerns, interoperable technologies, standards and have a holistic view of their IoT landscape.

Under the IoT portfolio we have expertise on various technologies like:

  • machine to machine – collect information through meters or sensors and communicate through wired or wireless devices network
  • sensors – subsequent actions through sensors or actuators take place based on certain environmental changes
  • smart meters – track resource consumption and provide analysis for better decision making
  • connected machines – automate processes through an intelligent network of devices and alert the users on reaching particular preset values

These implementations have increased their revenue streams, improved their security systems and helped them deliver more reliable and responsive services to the consumers which resulted into improved customer experiences.

Xoriant IoT Client Engagements

Leveraging the concepts of IoT and M2M we helped our client to seamlessly collect sensor data, process it and convert it into graphical representation through a web application for the purpose of monitoring their products - inverters that provide electricity during power outages.

Manufacturing & High Tech

Developed a cross platform mobile app that monitors and tracks Internet connected devices such as game consoles, tablets, phones, and PC's by sending notifications to the user about their Internet connection status.

Supply Chain Management

Developed an asset tracking mobile application that is powered by over 120 devices with RFID tags. This enables business users to have real-time visibility on movement of assets.

Manufacturing (Hazardous Chemical)

Developed a web-based application to monitor and control the environment suitable for transferring of hazardous chemicals via pipelines. The application converted the data collected from pipe sensors relating to pressure, temperature etc. into graphical illustration to control, monitor the environment and help client avert associated risks.
